Barfly 49 - 51, Ave. George V, (8th arrondissement) Tel 01 53 67 84 60. New York style bar where English is as common as French. Stop by for drinks or for dinner. The food is world-cuisine and palatable. But the main reason to come here is to see and be seen. Getting in is not always easy.

Buddha Bar 8, Rue Boissy d' Anglais (8th arrondissement). Tel 01 53 05 90 00. The huge Buddha in the main hall sets the Asiatic tone for this trendy restaurant and bar in Paris. Elegant crowds and expensive bills make the rest. A good way to start your night out.

Man Rey (Bar/Restaurant) 34 Rue Marbeuf. Asiatic tone also for this trendy restaurant and bar in Paris. Another good way to start or finish your night out near Champs Elysees.

Xu (Bar/Restaurant): 19 rue Bayard, 75008 Paris. Tel: 01.47.20.82.24. Right in the heart of the high fashion area off of Rue Montaigne. Quite a trendy restaurant serving world cuisine with Asiatic touch. You might just see well known fashion faces taking a break !

Restaurant Le Procope (Les Frères Blanc) 13, rue de l'Anceinne Comédie 75006 Paris Tel 01 40 46 79 00. Known to be one of the oldest cafés of the western world. Start with the Oysters from Bretagne or Terrine de Foies de Volaille followed by the traditional Coq au vin. In 1686 Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli, gentleman from Palermo started the café in Rue des Fossés Sain Germain (today rue de l'Ancienne Comédie). The excellence of the bar and also serving sorbets, in friendly atmosphere and neighbourhood where l'Ancienne Comédie Française was also situated, it quickly became meeting place for good souls and minds. Hence, arguably, was born the first literray café in the western world. During more than two centuries, all known names, or who hoped to be known, in the world of writing, of arts and politics and liberal philosophy, frequented the Café Procope. The list of "habitués du Procope" included Voltaire, Rousseau, Beaumarchais, Balzac, Hugo, Verlaine, Diderot, d'Alembert and Benjamin Franklin and many other great names of the French Literature. During the revolution Robespierre, Danton and Marat held meetings here. Even the young Lieutenant Bonaparte who left his hat here as security ! Le Procope exists today, loyal under the shadows of history. Symbol of the past, the table of Voltaire bears witness to the history and is prepared to welcome the new glories.

St. Emaran's Muehle. Bogenhausen. I have personally driven an Argentinian gentlemen to this place to try their Schwein's Haxe. It is so outstanding that he keeps asking me to take him back.

Heidelberg

Schloss Restaurant. Just by the castle. Elegant restaurant. Good German kitchen. If you are there in the spring time ask for asparagus from Schwetzingen. Arguably the best in the world. In any case don't argue with anybody in Heidelberg about asparagus.

Berlin

The Old Custom's House This is actually the place where we decided to build this page. Run by an English gentlemen, this former wine bar developed into a very good restaurant with lots of ambiance.

Caviar Bar at the Kempinski Hotel Europa. Elegant and Expensive

Harrys Bar. On Boat Quay. It has got really nothing to do with Harry' s bar in Venice but its good fun and offers lots of live jazz music just by the water. Trendy!

Washington DC

J.Pauls, Georgetown. M Street. Got to have the shrimps. Fun, easy going ambiance. In spot as long as I can remember.

Paolo's, Georgetown, Wisconsin Avenue The European version of J.Paul's . Belongs to the same group but the flair is different. Also fun.

Blues Alley. Georgetown, Blues Alley. One of the oldest Jazz joints in the country. All the big names paid a visit here. Good Creole food, but you really come for the music. 2 shows per night. If you like Jazz, I could not think of one reason to miss this.

Ristorante Goldoni. Foggy Bottom, 22nd street. One of the very best Italian restaurants in town. Even by Italian standards. President Clinton likes it as well! Expensive but not over the top.

New York,

Bice 54 & Madison Trendy Italian restaurant. Good Food Good Fun

El Ranchito (Mexican / Colombian) 14333-22 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32250. Family owned and operated. Great authentic food for a reasonable price, average meal is about $6.00. Great for casual dining, no dress code, very relaxed environment. They serve a great selection of food for children, and vegetarians. They also serve, beer and wine. Its located next to the Big Lots / Body Shop Gym at the Corner of San Pablo / Beach Blvd. Recommended by Karen HEIRING.

Dick's Last Resort by the lake. Student type place. Good, cheap brunch on Sunday

South Carolina

Ristorante Bergamo 100 N. Main St. Greenville SC 29601 Tel: 864 271 8667 Downtown's best. Italian cuisine freshly prepared and elegantly served by Bergamo native, Chef Nello Gioia. Specials daily include fresh fish and veal dishes. Excellent wine list. Recommended by Janette Wesley Villa Sant'Andrea in Cortona, Tuscany.

Hawaii

Waimea Plantation Cottages Kauai (611) 511 0299. Not a restaurant but a great place to hide from hotel chains. A former plantation, now offers bungallows by the sea in absolute peaceful settings. The only drawback: not the best water on Hawaii.
